Biography
In the enchanting city of Grenoble, in the south-east of France on October 15, 1984 Raya Hilal opened her eyes for the first time, and was nurtured most of her childhood phase. 

This young star has been raised in, exposed to, and enriched, with a variety of cultures, that of her native country: Lebanon, her birth country: France, and her mother’s Brazilian roots. An interval in her life, that shaped up her strong conviction, and path, in art and music.

Her passion to oriental music was derived from her attachment to the Arabic culture that was greatly embellished with the grandiosity of the prodigies before her such as Abdul EL Wahab, Farid El Atrach, Asmahan, Oum Koulthoum, Abdel Haleem, Layla Murad, Fayrouz, Magida EL Roumi and others.

The innate talents she possessed, and excelled, whether in drawing, sculpturing, performing, writing and above all singing, defined her goals and made her transition easier and a lot faster into the show business.

The majesty of fiction and fantasies of the world are found nowhere but in the kingdom of imagination.

A place where Raya Hilal could successfully take you, through a sequence of animations. In 2000, she was a member of the, “Animation films club of Annecy”
Her skills in drawing and love for cartoons encouraged her to pursue a degree in Belgium, for a career as a director of animated films. However; June 2004 has been a turning point in Raya’s life. Her future lies somewhere else ahead of her and other plans needed to be drawn. It took only one evening, one party, several songs in English, French, and Arabic, in one of her summer holidays in Lebanon to convince her to fallow that path. It took only these state-of-the-art songs to bewitch the audience by her voice, and be persistently encouraged by them to go in for a singing career.

The decisions she has to take, was firmly supported by strong encouragements given by professionals in this field, for instance the poet Faysal Zeid, and M. Tamim Hilal, the director of the Conservatoire, who in return introduced her to M. Robert Safadi, a historian critic of Oriental music who compiled the most important library of Arabic songs. Since their first encounter, M. Safadi realized that with her exceptional voice, Raya would have a brilliant future.

Although many obstacles and a lot of difficulties exist in such area, but still she decided to engage herself in this vocation with the full support and under the wings of her parents. 

Taking matters more seriously, proper arrangements and preparations were made, and were well organized in such a way that Raya could achieve her best performance. Primarily, she was presented to a known figure of the oriental music scene, the great singer and professor, M. Mohamed Zein who taught and informed her how to sing professionally and competently in Arabic, since her singing performances were in French and English.

In that same year, he had even helped her prepare, in record time, great songs for great Arab singers (Asmahan, Abd El Halim, Abd El Wahab, Layla Murad, Fairuz, Farid El Atrach…) to perform in a recital, lead by the famous Maestro and great talented kanoon player M. Mehyedin Al Ghaly, in front of 300 important figures of the artistic and media scene, including composers, artists, journalists, politicians, and intellectual people. Taken with her talent and voice, the great musician M. Shafic Abou Shakra present at that time in the recital, decided to compose a song especially for her.

After that, our young star decided to enhance her knowledge in Arabic music, and so took Aoud courses with M. Oussama Abdel Fattah.

Further on, Raya kept on dazzling her audience with her performance in several other occasions, such as at St. Sylvester’s evening of the Lebanese House of Saint Denis in the Reunion Island in 2005, and in summer at Kornayel festival in Lebanon.

Afterwards, she started working on her first album, so called Koun Bioumri, titled after her first song. This song among few others has been composed by the famous Maestro M. Ihsan El Mounzir for Raya’s album. This famous composer, who already joined his talents to big distinguished singers such as Magida El Roumi, Ragheb Alama, and others, took advantage of every occasion to praise Raya, because he saw hope in this young star to recover and bring back quality to the Arabic songs.

Daring to show her best, she diversified her songs in this first album, each with a different style accordingly, from rhythmic festive pop, to mellow and intense slow, and from melodious waltz to pure jazz, and from popular to modern classic songs.


In order to introduce her album, Raya made 3 music videos. Two of them are currently showing on several TV stations (Koun Biomri and Jayee Ala Bali). The third (for the track Baadak Ala Waadak) will be released soon.

The first two music videos were shot in the Reunion Island, an overseas region of France, where Raya lived for a year. In both videos, Raya presents her real personality: a young, natural, athletic, nature lover, and romantic girl.
Where as the third music video for Baadak Ala Waadak ( to be released soon ), was shot in Lebanon by an excellent Lebanese director, M. Sharbel Aouad. 

Beyond any doubt, along with her singing career, Raya is attending to and focusing on her education as well, which allows her to dedicate herself to her other passions, namely: sculpture, painting, and pottery… In fact, she has just brilliantly passed her second year at the Fine Art school at the Lebanese University.

Ultimately, Raya is destined to become one of the greatest singers, regionally and internationally. Her music will touch us all.
